If you’re an international graduate looking to permanently live and work in Australia, the TRA Job Ready Program (JRP) is a vital step in your journey. Managed by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA), this program assesses your skills and work experience to ensure you meet Australian workplace standards in your chosen trade.

Understanding the processing timelines of the Job Ready Program is essential for successful planning, especially when visa deadlines and employment opportunities are on the line. Here’s everything you need to know about the Job Ready Program processing times as of May 2025.

What Is the Job Ready Program?

The Job Ready Program is specifically designed for overseas students who have completed a trade qualification in Australia and wish to apply for a skilled visa. Graduates commonly use it in carpentry, automotive, commercial cookery, wall and floor tiling, electrical, and many more.

To complete the program successfully, participants must complete at least 12 months of full-time employment (or part-time equivalent) in their nominated occupation. The entire program must be completed within a three-year timeframe from the date of registration.

The Job Ready Program consists of four key stages:

  1. Job Ready Program Registration
  2. Job Ready Employment
  3. Workplace Assessment
  4. Final Assessment

Each stage involves specific requirements and timelines, which TRA updates based on demand.

Job Ready Program Processing Times

TRA has updated the timeline for processing various Job Ready Program activities. These are as follows:

Program Registration

After you submit your online application, TRA will confirm your registration within 45 days.

Eligibility for Workplace Assessment

Once you participate in the Job Ready Program, TRA will assess your eligibility to move forward with a Workplace Assessment. You can receive a decision within 6 months from your Job Ready Program application date.

Workplace Assessment Application

After applying for a Workplace Assessment:

  • TRA will refer your case to a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) within 6 weeks.
  • The RTO will contact you within 2 weeks of referral to schedule the assessment.

Note: If you cannot attend your assessment, you must contact the RTO directly to cancel or reschedule before your appointment date.

Workplace Assessment Outcome

Following your Workplace Assessment, the RTO will send the results to TRA. You will be contacted about the outcome within 11 weeks of the assessment date.

This step is crucial because it determines whether you are competent in your nominated occupation under Australian standards.

Final Assessment

Once you complete your 12-month work requirement and pass the Workplace Assessment, TRA will invite you to proceed with the Final Assessment. This is the final step in receiving a positive skills assessment, essential for skilled migration.

Document Processing

TRA may request additional information or documents throughout your participation. If so, processing these documents can take up to 14 days from receiving them.
