The Employee Sponsored Visa (Subclass 482), also known as the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa, permits an employer to sponsor a worker who has the requisite expertise to fill a position that no other Australian is skilled enough to fill.

This introduction of this visa on 19the Match 2019 followed the abolition of Temporary Work Visa Subclass 457 by the DHA.

This visa is further divided into 3 streams:

  • The Short-Term Stream
  • The Medium-Term Stream
  • The Labour-Agreement Stream

Short-Term Stream

With this visa, the employers can fulfill the labor deficit by recruiting skilled workers when employers can’t find any relevant Australian worker who is skilled enough to meet the requirements.

  • Stay Period

This visa allows the person to stay for up to 2 years to up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies. The holders of Hong Kong passports can stay up to 5 years.

  • Cost

The cost of the visa begins from AUD 1,290

  • Processing Time

Although there isn’t any specific period for Sub Class 482 to get processed but usually the turnaround time for applications is listed below:

36 days for 25% of applications
53 days for 50% of applications
5 months for 75% of applications
14 months for 90% of applications

Medium-term stream

With this visa, the employers can fulfill the labor deficit by recruiting skilled workers when employers can’t find any relevant Australian worker who is skilled enough to meet the requirements.

  • Stay Period

Up to 4 years
Those who hold valid Hong Kong passports can stay up to 5 years.

  • Cost

The cost of the visa begins from AUD 2,690

Labour Agreement Stream

This visa is meant for skilled workers who were employer nominated on a Labor Agreement. With this visa, the holder can stay and work in Australia temporarily.

Up to 4 years, varying on the conditions of the labor agreement. Those who hold Hong Kong passports can stay up to 5 years.

  • Cost

Eligibility Criteria for Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482)

Some of the generic TSS visa requirements are:

  1. Your chosen occupation should be listed on the Consolidated Skilled Occupations List
  2. You ought to be nominated by an Australian employer who wishes to hire you to fill a job position and work for him.
  3. You must possess the requisite skill set and educational background for your occupation.
  4. You must also be proficient in the vocational English Language.
  5. You must also meet the health and character requirements laid by the DHA.
  6. If you are staying in Australia, you must have a substantive visa, or a bridging visa A, B, or C, and you must meet all the visa conditions.

It is important to note that age is not a bar to apply for a TSS visa.

Basic requirements for employers for the application of Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)

  • Employers who wish to sponsor overseas individuals to work in Australia on the TSS visa must meet the following conditions.
  • Their business of operation must be lawful.
  • He/she must not be aware of any adverse information detrimental to the working of the business.
  • He/she should only assign a job role for the overseas worker that is full-time and authentic.
  • Also, meet the required salary and employment conditions.
  • Submit proof of the Labor Market Testing, if needed.
