What are the basic criteria of this Visa?
The basic criteria for subclass 190 Skilled Nominated visa are as follows:
- To apply for this visa you need to be nominated by a state or territory government. without this nomination you cannot apply for a subclass 190 Skilled Nominated Visa even though you may be fulfilling other visa criteria.
It is very important to remember that different Australian states and territories may have different criteria for nominating an applicant for subclass 190 visa.
- An applicant applying for a 190 visa needs to have their occupation in the relevant skilled list.
The relevant skilled list for subclass 190 visa as per legislative instrument is the Medium and Long-term strategic skills list as well as short term skilled occupation list.

Although visa 190 Skilled Nominated Visa does not have a requirement of any number of years of experience, but some occupations may require experience for skill assessment. So, this is very important to keep in mind if you are thinking of lodging an application for subclass 190 visa.
- To apply for a visa 190 Skilled Nominated Visa, you need to have at least 65 points. But having 65 points does not guarantee you a subclass 190 visa nomination. Depending on the occupations and state policies applicants with most points or applicants with skilled occupations in preferred areas of expertise may be prioritised for the nomination. But these applicants will still have to satisfy the minimum 65 points criteria.

- Applicant must meet health and character requirements.
- Applicant must have either paid Australian government debt back or should have made formal arrangements for it.
- Subclass 190 Fees: From AUD 4,240.
Steps to apply for a 190 Visa
- Check if your occupation is in Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List or Skort term Skilled Occupation List.
- Give your English Language Test. Example IELTS, PTE etc. An equivalent of 6 each in all 4 modules are required. Try to get a better score for more points.
- Collect your documents and get your migration skill asessment done from the authorised assessing body. Example: CPA, ACS, VETAASSESS, TRA, EA etc.
- Apply for EOI (Expression for Interest) in Skill Select on Department of Home Affairs website.
- Apply for state nomination. Some states like Victoria also require a ROI.
- Once you get invitation from the state, you can lodge your 190 visa. You then wait for your visa 190 to be granted.
