New Skilled Visa Processing Priorities December 2023

There has been a new ministerial direction No.105 issued by the Minister of Home Affairs. This ministerial direction prioritizes the Australian government’s decision to support regional Australia through priority processing of visa applications. This is part of Australian government’s commitment to provide world-leading immigration service by contributing $48.1 million towards this initiative.

This Ministerial direction applies to the following

Skilled Migration Visas

  • Subclass 124 (Distinguished Talent) Visa
  • Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme) Visa
  • Subclass 187 (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme) Visa
  • Subclass 188 (Business Innovation and Investment) (Provisional) Visa
  • Subclass 189 (Skilled – Independent) Visa
  • Subclass 190 (Skilled – Nominated) Visa
  • Subclass 191 (Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional)) Visa
  • Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage) Visa
  • Subclass 489 (Skilled – Regional (Provisional)) Visa
  • Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional (Provisional)) Visa
  • Subclass 494 (Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional)) Visa
  • Subclass 858 (Global Talent) Visa
  • Subclass 887 (Skilled – Regional) Visa
  • Subclass 888 (Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) Visa

Order of Priority

Priority 1

For employer-sponsored visas, visas related to designated regional areas will take the first processing priority. For the employer-sponsored visas in the designated regional areas, the following visas will take priority:

  • Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme) Visa
  • Subclass 187 (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme) Visa
  • Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage) Visa
  • Subclass 494 (Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional)) Visa

Priority 2

The second priority will be taken by skilled visa applications for healthcare or teaching occupations. The following are the occupations that will be prioritized.

Priority 3

The third priority will be taken by applicants nominated by accredited sponsors for employer-sponsored visas.

Priority 4

For Provisional and permanent visa subclasses, visa applications that count towards migration program excluding subclass 188 visa.

Priority 5

All other Visa applications which will be processed in order of date of lodgement.
